Because of it's high profile history and use for Olympic training, the location is outfitted with world class equipment for all winter events. It was home to two Olympics, 1932 & 1980, and still has the US Olympic Training Center there, as well as all the historic venues. It boast high class resorts, lodging and dining set amidst stunning mountain scenery. For the outdoorsmen and hikers, it is a great place to relax and re-supply at good for Adirondacks shopping areas. It provides access to the High Peaks and all the major trails. Also, for skiers Olympic Whiteface Mountain is right down the road, which is also the most challenging and steepest hike in NY State for hikers. I can go on for hours about Lake Placid, but you have to just go there and see for yourself. I will try to dig up some pictures to go along with this page.

Busy Main St., NY 86 Of all the places in the Adirondacks, Lake Placid is the most cosmopolitan. It's busy night street crowds in season make you think you are in the City; which has a grain of truth cause Lake Placid is the only real city in the Adirondack Parks by NY States definition of a city, full time population over ten thousand. Add the summer crowd and you'll under stand why it takes 15 minutes to drive from one end of the "village" to the other. The plethora of marked off crosswalks will really slow you down on NY 86, Main Street. There ara short cuts around Lake Placid, like Millpind Road, Old Militarty Road(CR 35), West Valley Road so you can get from one end of town to the other without hitting a lot of traffic congestion.
