Bolton Landing

About Bolton Landing

Bolton Landing is a small village on the west side of Lake George (lake) about 12 miles north of Lake George Village, past Diamond Point, on NY 9N, in the Town of Bolton. There are 4 FREE public beaches for swimming. It is a lot quieter and less hectic than Lake George and is a wonderful place to enjoy a lakeside vacation. It is home to the Sagamore Resort Hotel and has over 2000 year round residents, which is a lot for a town in the Adirondacks.

Driving:

Exit 21 is the shortest mileage drive, for that is NY 9N, but the longest time because you have to drive through Lake George Village. Exit 22 is good cause it bypasses the village and is a limited access road till it's end at NY 9N by the lake. But the 12 miles from Exit 22 to Bolton Landing can be tedious in traffic cause it is a winding 2 lane road with a lot of businesses and homes. Exit 24 is the fastest but a little longer in mileage. From Exit 24 just head east on CR 11, Bolton Landing RIverbank Road and it is only 4.5 miles to Bolton Landing on NY 9N.

Lake George

Lake George is a fine fresh water lake and a very popular resort village. Next to Lake Placid, it is the best known and most popular vacation lake in New York State and New England too. It is also completely in the Adirondack Park. The lake itself is part of an ancient sea channel that once was composed of the Hudson River, Lake Champlain and the St. Lawrence River that split anything south and east of them into a huge island. But that was filled in during the ice age leaving only fresh water rivers and lakes, but both the lower Hudson and lower St. Lawrence Rivers are tidal. The lake is 32 miles long and three miles wide and much of it, mainly on the east shore, is unspoiled state forest land. Even the exits from our Adirondack Northway, Exits 21. 22 & 24, are scenic too. They have steep grades, lush vegetation and the hills in the background, unlike the previous twenty odd exits that can best be described as utilitarian.
